Alberts Press latest tome ‘Pop Idle’ will be on sale from Saturday 15th. Set in the music biz it’s another delve into what goes on behind the scenes by author Phil P Mitchell.

Synopsis:

Waking up to his worst hangover in over a week Dave Grant greeted his thirty-fifth birthday. Once Dave was one of the hotshots of the Music Biz, an A&R whizzkid who had hits (yeah and the odd large miss but who’s counting) through the 80’s and 90’s. But Dave hadn’t had what you might call a smash in the last five years - Platinum was way back there somewhere and even Gold was heading for the hills… He’d worked at all the major record companies and managed to get out just before a merger, a takeover or more often his own incompetence had cost him his job. Now he was at Miles Hi Records, a small but voraciously ambitious indie label owned by Miles Brandon gamely determined to ‘crack the UK like a watermelon.’

Dave was in the last chance saloon and in desperate need of a break (or at least an extremely large vodka). Enter Big Stewy Black a mean Brummie and manager so old school he should be wearing shorts, touting his new discovery Gary Gray, a kid so devoid of talent the word ‘fuckwit’ should have been invented for him. Under pressure to sign a new act or lose his job for the last time Dave joins Stewy to hatch a plan to make Gary the NEXT BIG THING…

We found out earlier this week that the publisher of my ‘Albert’ series of books has gone bust. No web site and the phone number I have for them is disconnected. Buggritt!

This also means that the first theatre tome I wrote under the Stiofan McAtinney pen, ‘Operation Brutus’, is also now not available. It soon will be - but published under the auspices of Alberts Press and I am hatching plans to bring out the Alberts 1-3 in one volume.

Looks like I’m going to be busy as I also want the next Rob Crowther theatre book out this year as well. Title? ‘Men In Blacks.’

… back to hatching

I see that Alberts Press author Phil P Mitchell is doing well at Amazon with constant sales and now an offer by them.

If you don’t know about Rosko then get y’self over and check him out. Described as ‘…a quirky crime caper which fairly zips along, with contributions from a hard-done by hamster and a cunning cat to add to the wacky factor.’ by the Northern Echo last month and his first novel Beyond The Volcanoes - in the top 100 of the music section for the past month reaching the dizzy heights of number 20 at one point - was described by The Crack magazine as ‘A wonderful, wry read’.

And if you’ve not met Phil you can read all about him here from a feature in the Newcastle Evening Chronicle.

ROSKO

The latest offering from Alberts Press, ROSKO by Phil P Mitchell is now up and running at Amazon.

Described as a “quirky crime novel” which is set in and around the north east environs of Newcastle the synopsis is thus: When the terrified wife of his ex-boss Clive Thompson comes to Harry Rosko for help, he’s got a dilemma. His private investigation business might not ever put him on the Top Ten Rich List, but it paid the bills. Well, most of the time.

So, what to do, carry on with the ‘maritals’, hanging around in car parks taking sordid photos? Or take a stand against Thompson and his cronies? Make that Chief Inspector Thompson.

See, Harry was once a young copper working his way up the ladder, but when he came into conflict with Thompson, he found himself sliding down one long snake and straight out of the Force.

Now, Rosko has a chance to redress the balance, to restore Justice and protect those in need. And to get his own back in the process, of course.

But can he succeed with the odds so stacked against him? Well, he does have the lovely Lisa, his smart and loyal assistant. Then there’s Jeff, his man on the inside. And there’s always Dave and Eugene, but they weren’t exactly human.

Can’t fail really then, eh..?

Here we go…

Since publishing PANTO last November I have been asked to also publish tomes from friends and acquaintances.

So became Albertspress.

To date we have three offerings - probably more to follow.

APbooks

ROSKO is our latest by Phil P Mitchell - and should be available mid May at all the usual outlets; MASCULISM ‘describes what great cultures are and it prescribes three absolute universal rights that are essential for living creatures.’

If you are interested in doing a bit of self publishing through us… get in touch. A couple of things about that is that we must have the complete MS and approve it and we design the cover (inc our logo)…. pricewise? So far we are looking at about £260 - 250pp paperback - which gets you the correct formatting in PDF, cover design, ISBN assignment, all the distro and your proof copy.

More later.

Just by way of a different arm to our activities I set up Alberts Press some time ago.

This is a Print On Demand service that is offered to anyone with a view to publishing a book - only one codicil though; we must approve the manuscript.
